In our work together, I take a collaborative, nonjudgmental, and empathetic approach. I believe that trust and connection are at the heart of meaningful therapy. My focus is on creating a comfortable and respectful environment where you can feel safe to express yourself and explore whatever challenges you’re facing. With over 20 years of experience as a clinical counsellor, I draw from a number of evidence- based approaches. I also believe in working at a pace that suits you—whether we’re working through past trauma, managing anxiety, or building new life skills.

I’ve had the privilege of working with clients of all ages and backgrounds, including both adults and youth. My own journey as a therapist continues to evolve; I am deeply committed to lifelong learning and ongoing professional development. Alongside my clinical work, I’ve also taught at the college and graduate levels, contributed to academic publications, and presented at international conferences. My passion for mental health has taken me to institutions like Ohio State University and McGill University, where I’ve worked with leading professionals in the field. With over 10 years of experience in the field, I truly believe that healing and growth begin when a client and counsellor enter a relationship of trust, safety, and confidence. My counselling style is rooted in the idea that I must adapt my techniques to a client’s needs rather than use a one- size-fits-all approach, where I use Trauma-Focused therapy, EMDR, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Logotherapy, and a Person-Centered approach. I love using Art Therapy when it is difficult to express feelings in words, and I welcome my clients to explore healing through different art mediums. I have expertise in working with individuals, relationships, and families from all walks of life and am passionate about supporting clients with various traumas, life transitions, and mental health diagnoses. I have worked with victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence, with immigrants and refugees, with the LGBTQ+ community, indigenous peoples, substance use and addictions, and many others. Mehrdad is a dedicated professional passionate about accompanying individuals through their personal growth and facilitating healing.

With a strong academic and practical background, Mehrdad completed his master’s degree in counselling psychology at the University of British Columbia, complemented by another master’s degree in general psychology. Drawing inspiration from Rumi’s wisdom that “the wound is the place where the light enters you,” Mehrdad embodies an integrative approach to therapy, utilizing various modalities like an art pallet to suit each client’s unique needs.

Having served as a therapist in Fraser Health in Vancouver for eight years and through private practice, Mehrdad has had the privilege of working with diverse clients as a group and individual therapist and utilizing music therapy combined with mindfulness.
